30th Celebration: The First Week, and What Comes Next

A week after release, 30th Celebration has given collectors plenty to talk about: Pikachu artwork, familiar cards returning in new finishes, and the pleasure of opening something that feels different from a regular expansion. But liking the cards and liking the launch prices are two separate things. Here is our first-week assessment, plus a look at the next English expansion, Mega Evolution: Delta Reign.

What makes this anniversary set different?

30th Celebration launched on September 16 with a simultaneous worldwide release. Its appeal is not confined to one chase card: the main expansion sits alongside a Classic Collection revisiting cards from earlier eras. That gives returning collectors a familiar starting point without making the whole release a trip through the original Base Set.

Each booster contains five foil cards and a foil Basic Energy, including one of 30 Pikachu illustrations. Futuristic rare Mew and Mewtwo artwork by YOSHIROTTEN adds a very different visual direction. Our take: the set works best as a collection of artwork to enjoy, rather than a checklist defined only by the most expensive pull.

Early reception: the opening experience stands out

In the September 17 r/PokemonTCG discussion about the set, collectors praised the Pikachu selection and described enjoyable openings with friends or family. Some called it their favourite release in a long time. That is anecdotal enthusiasm, not evidence that every collector agrees, but the repeated focus on the cards themselves is notable.

Our reading of those reactions is that the anniversary succeeds when an ordinary pack still offers something worth keeping. A binder page of favourite illustrations is a different goal from chasing a single headline card. It also makes the set easier to enjoy in small amounts: you can decide what belongs in your collection without committing to every product or every variant.

Enthusiasm does not settle the price question

The same discussions include concerns about affordability and finding products at an acceptable price. A separate first-week thread debates whether easier access to desirable singles would be good for the hobby. Those comments do not establish actual print-run size, pull rates or a market-wide price decline. We would not turn them into numerical claims.

Nor is September 16 the arrival date of every anniversary product. The official showcase lists a staggered rollout. Before comparing two boxes, check their contents and regional release details, not just the anniversary branding. A later product release is not a new expansion, and an expensive listing is not proof that a buyer paid that amount.

Classic Collection and language versions need care

The main set and Classic Collection should be treated as separate collecting checklists. Japanese and English card lists also differ, with some cards distributed as promos in English. An identical Pokémon or familiar illustration is not enough to establish that two listings describe the same printing.

When checking a price, compare the set, collector number, language, finish and condition. A current anniversary reprint is not the vintage card it references. Likewise, an English Near Mint card and a French Mint copy should not be blended into one comparison. This is particularly important when a seller abbreviates the title or uses a generic image. The exact card matters more than a search result's headline.

Next up: Delta Reign on November 6

For the English release calendar, the next announced expansion after 30th Celebration is Mega Evolution: Delta Reign, due November 6, 2026. Mega Rayquaza ex leads the set, while Legendary Stadiums bring paired Stadium cards. Pokémon's September preview also shows cards such as Heat Rotom ex and Delibird.

Prerelease events are scheduled from October 24 to November 1, according to PokéBeach's announcement coverage. Delta Reign draws on Japan's Storm Emeralda, but it is not a promise of an identical card list or numbering. Japanese prices may be interesting context; they are not an English launch price forecast.

The contrast is useful: 30th Celebration centres on anniversary collecting, while Delta Reign returns attention to the next main expansion and its gameplay additions. There is no need to call either a better purchase before deciding what you actually want from it. Nor do confirmed release details tell us the eventual pull rates, local stock levels or long-term demand.

Our take: choose the collection, not the noise

Start with a small goal. That might be a page of Pikachu art, a handful of Classic Collection favourites, or a particular language edition. Decide separately whether you want the experience of opening packs or the certainty of getting specific singles. They are different purchases, even when they come from the same set.

When comparing listings, keep the same printing and condition together and look at more than one day of data where history is available. Active offers describe what sellers are asking; completed sales describe transactions. Neither a lone high ask nor one unusually cheap sale should stand in for the whole market.

Our first-week verdict is positive about the collecting idea: the anniversary gives people several ways to enjoy the cards beyond chasing one rare hit. It is too early for a verdict on lasting availability or value. With Delta Reign already dated, there is also a clear next chapter to follow without treating this week as the final chance to participate.

Quick answers

Is Classic Collection the same as the main 30th Celebration set?

It is a distinct collection within the anniversary release. Keep its card identities separate from the main set and from the original vintage printings.

What comes after 30th Celebration?

On the English expansion calendar, Mega Evolution: Delta Reign is scheduled for November 6, 2026. Later anniversary boxes are additional products, not a replacement for that expansion.

Does first-week enthusiasm prove prices will rise?

No. Enjoyment, availability and resale prices are different questions. Community reactions do not establish future demand or a guaranteed return.
